Train your team to Counter attack

Size of the pictch: use the middle of the pitch, put goals on the 18 yard line of each side. No changes to the width. Rules: One team X try to play counter attack game against the Y Game will always start or restart from Y Goal keeper. No throw ins or goal kicks except for Y goalie. How to play: X should defend deep in their own pitch as soon as they lost possession. Success will only come if the X team will perform it in a right way. You may stop the practice whenever they don’t withdraw after losing possession and give them the appropriate orders. As soon as the repossess, tell central striker to release himself in a way that he may receive the ball in the area behind Y's central back. (He should avoid off side but check in or D runs). He is your target player. Tactical training for Attacking and defending

This drill serves two purposes 1. Utilising number advantage when attacking and 2. Slowing attack when defense is outnumbered. Initially the drill uses nine players; a keeper, three defenders, and five attackers. The five attacking players should spread out in a semi circle. Starting point: One attacking player has a ball and the three defenders are positioning themeselves to provide pressure, cover and balance in order to shut down the attack. Organization: You can use bibs or jerseys with different colours. The attackers will at first not attempt to move forward to score but they should pass the ball around them. the defenders try to position themselves by rotating and shifting. Next step is for the attackers to move and try to score while defenders are trying to slow them down and/or win the ball. Variations: Add more attackers to seven while defenders remain the same. Change the starting point; keeper taking a kick to the centre of the pitch where the attackers are.

Coaching Discipline

Discipline is core to all sport activities; all parties to the game are supposed to behave in a desired manner. Not only players who are required to be disciplined in their way of life or during excersises or matches, but also coaches, trainers, managers etc.If you are a youth coach especially those working with player aged under 14 years, you need to understand that discipline will be the centre of all issues between you and your players. It is at this age that players must be assisted/shaped to have a very disciplined way of life on the pitch and outside the pitch. Displine cuts accross all areas from the way they interact with others to the way they train on the ground.A disciplined player rarely finds himself in the trouble with a referee for infringement of rules of the game or in a bad relationship with fellow players. A disciplined player will be attentive to the teachings of his/her trainer; If you can work and succeed in the area of discipline with your players you will find ...

THE LIVERPOOL GAME (PASS AND MOVE)

This material was given to me by a friend Paul cooper of The dutchUK footbal school of UK. Material also includes interviews with notable people in the world of soccer. “Liverpool FC was encapsulated in just three words: ‘Pass and Move.’” Alan Hansen “A lot of coaches in their fifties and sixties will tell you that with virtually all of the great players of their generation, their success was founded in the hours they spent playing football in the streets. It was an important part of the culture of working – class lads.” Alan Hansen In the 1970s and 1980s when Liverpool where at their peak and most clubs idea of training was a lot of running and physical work without the ball, at Liverpool they played 5 a-side games with the emphasis on simple quick passing. Liverpool was renowned as the ‘pass and move’ team and Shankly made sure that everything was kept simple. Players were encouraged to make their own decisions and solve problems. Ronnie Moran, one of the legendary coaches at the c...
