Discipline is core to all sport activities; all parties to the game are supposed to behave in a desired manner. Not only players who are required to be disciplined in their way of life or during excersises or matches, but also coaches, trainers, managers etc.
If you are a youth coach especially those working with player aged under 14 years, you need to understand that discipline will be the centre of all issues between you and your players.
It is at this age that players must be assisted/shaped to have a very disciplined way of life on the pitch and outside the pitch. Displine cuts accross all areas from the way they interact with others to the way they train on the ground.
A disciplined player rarely finds himself in the trouble with a referee for infringement of rules of the game or in a bad relationship with fellow players. A disciplined player will be attentive to the teachings of his/her trainer; If you can work and succeed in the area of discipline with your players you will find it easier to implement other programs.
If you are training the younger group everything you do as a trainer adds to their understanding of the game; everything from the language you use to the gear you are wearing on the training ground. In a simple sentence is that; to them you are the key to success or destruction. To them you are the role model, their minds can be easily corrupted (that is why to my opinion youth(children)coaching should be regulated and closely monitored by Football associations).
Before you go and train young players make sure you are well prepared in terms of excersises you give, help them understand the value of discipline in their career as players.
In all you do DO NOT PRESSURE THEM TO ACHIEVE GOALS; try to encourage them. This will minimize drop out rate as children do not like to be pressured. Look for Drills that are fun and enjoyable.
